Common questions about accounts, competition rules, step tracking, and payments.
Tontine Fitness uses Sign in with Apple. Tap "Sign in with Apple" on the login screen and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password. No separate Tontine password is created or stored.
Your account is tied to your Apple ID, not your device. Simply install Tontine Fitness on your new phone and tap Sign in with Apple using the same Apple ID. Your profile, history, and balance will load automatically.
Make sure your Apple ID iCloud account is signed in on the new device first.
Since Tontine Fitness does not hold your password, account access is managed entirely by Apple. To recover access:
1. Visit appleid.apple.com to reset or recover your Apple ID.
2. Once you've recovered your Apple ID, sign back into Tontine Fitness using Sign in with Apple.
If you believe your account has been compromised, contact Apple Support at support.apple.com to secure your Apple ID immediately.
Your Tontine Fitness account is secured by your Apple ID, which Apple protects with:
Two-factor authentication (2FA) — required for all modern Apple IDs. Even if someone knows your Apple ID password, they still need access to one of your trusted Apple devices or phone number to sign in.
Biometric authentication — Face ID or Touch ID is required to authorize each Sign in with Apple on your device.
We never store your password, and no third party can reset your Tontine credentials on your behalf. The only way to access your account is through your Apple ID on a trusted device.
Yes. Go to Profile → tap the pencil icon next to your @username. Usernames must be 3–20 characters and can only contain letters, numbers, and underscores. Each username is unique across all players.
You can permanently delete your account directly in the app:
Profile → scroll to the bottom → Delete Account
You will be asked to confirm before anything is deleted. Deletion is permanent — your profile, competition history, and username cannot be recovered.
If you are unable to delete your account in-app, contact us at support@yourdomain.com and we will process the deletion manually within 5 business days.
Every active player must record 10,000 steps by midnight in their local timezone on each day the competition runs. Steps are read from Apple Health, which syncs data from your iPhone, Apple Watch, or compatible third-party devices.
Missing the goal on any single day results in permanent elimination from that pool. There are no second chances or re-entries.
No. Manually entered steps in Apple Health are excluded from competition counts. Only steps recorded automatically by a hardware sensor (iPhone accelerometer, Apple Watch, etc.) are accepted.
The app displays a "Device" vs. "Manual" breakdown in your Profile so you can always verify what's being counted. Accounts with suspicious manual-entry patterns may be flagged for review.
If every remaining active player fails to meet the daily step goal on the same day, the competition ends in an All-Fail Split. The net prize pool is divided equally among all remaining players at that point. Each player receives their share minus the platform maintenance fee.
It depends on the pool type. Weekly open pools have a joining deadline before the competition begins — typically the start of the first competition day. You cannot join an in-progress pool mid-week. Private pools created by a friend may have different joining windows at the creator's discretion.
Step data is evaluated using the timezone configured on your device at the time the daily cutoff runs. Make sure your device timezone is set correctly. Manipulating device timezone settings to game the deadline may result in account suspension.
Entry fees are paid via Apple Pay at the time you join a competition. You will see a breakdown showing the entry fee, a payment processing fee, and any applicable sales tax before you authorize the payment. No card number is stored by Tontine Fitness.
When you win a competition (or receive a split payout), your winnings are credited to your Vault Wallet — an in-app balance displayed on your Profile tab. The money stays there until you choose to withdraw it.
To receive the funds, link a bank account and tap Withdraw via ACH. Transfers arrive in 2–3 business days and are free — there are no withdrawal fees. The minimum withdrawal amount is $20.
Payouts are not automatic. Winnings are held in your Vault Wallet until you actively request a withdrawal. This is by design — it lets you accumulate winnings across multiple competitions and withdraw in a single transfer whenever you're ready.
To withdraw: Profile → Vault Wallet → Withdraw via ACH. You must have a linked bank account and a minimum balance of $20.
Go to Profile → Vault Wallet → Link Bank to Withdraw. You'll be guided through a secure bank-linking flow powered by Stripe. Tontine Fitness never sees your bank login credentials.
After linking, two small micro-deposits (under $1 each) will appear in your bank account within 1–2 business days. Enter those amounts in-app to verify ownership, and your bank is confirmed. You only need to do this once.
There are two fees, both shown transparently before you pay:
Payment Processing Fee (3%): Covers credit/debit card network costs charged to us by the payment processor. Shown as a line item in the Apple Pay checkout sheet.
Platform Maintenance Fee: A percentage of the gross prize pool, deducted from winnings before they are credited to your Vault Wallet. The full fee schedule is in our Terms of Service.
ACH bank withdrawals are free — no fees to receive your winnings.
Standard ACH transfers take 2–3 business days from the time you submit the request. You will see a "In Transit" indicator in your Vault Wallet while the transfer is processing. Business days exclude weekends and US federal holidays.
Make sure you're entering your account and routing numbers exactly as they appear on a check or in your bank's online portal. Some banks use different routing numbers for ACH vs. wire transfers — use the ACH routing number.
If the issue persists, contact us at support@yourdomain.com with the name of your bank and we can investigate.
Yes. If you have an Apple Watch paired to your iPhone, your watch step data is synced to Apple Health and automatically counted toward your daily goal. We recommend keeping your Apple Watch charged and worn throughout the day for the most accurate count.
Try these steps in order:
1. Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Health and verify Tontine Fitness has "Read" access to Steps.
2. Open the Health app and confirm steps are being recorded under Browse → Activity → Steps.
3. In Tontine Fitness, go to Profile → Health Access → Re-Sync.
4. Restart the Tontine Fitness app.
If you're still seeing 0 steps after all of the above, contact support and include your iOS version and device model.
Steps from third-party fitness trackers are accepted only if the device syncs automatically to Apple Health via a certified app. If your Fitbit or Garmin app writes device-recorded steps to Apple Health, those steps will count.
Steps manually entered into Apple Health from any source are excluded.
Yes. A free Alternative Method of Entry (AMOE) is available. No purchase is required to participate in Tontine Fitness. See our Terms of Service for complete free entry instructions and eligibility requirements.
